Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County believe in offering high-quality programs to make a lasting impact and provide members with the resources and experiences to increase academic success, increase the likelihood of high school graduation, and improve healthy lifestyles. Programs engage members in six core values: Academics, Health & Wellness, Sports, The Arts, Character & Leadership and Workforce Readiness.

Academics

Power Hour | Ages 6-18

Power Hour: Making Minutes Count provides Club professionals with the strategies, activities, resources and information to create an engaging homework help and tutoring program that encourages Club members of every age to become self-directed learners.

Summer Brain Gain | All Ages

Summer Brain Gain is comprised of one-week modules with fun, themed activities for elementary school, middle school and high school students that are aligned with common core anchor standards. In addition, Summer Brain Gain: Read!, a literacy program, complements the larger Summer Brain Gain curriculum.

Money Matters | Ages 13-18

Money Matters promotes financial responsibility and independence among Club members ages 13 to 18. Participants learn how to manage a checking account, create a budget, save and invest, start small businesses and pay for college.

Health & Wellness

SMART Moves | Age 6-15 

SMART Moves is a prevention and education program addressing problems such as drug and alcohol use and premature sexual activity. 

Hot Meals 

Providing hot, nutritious meals to our members is a major component of our daily program. Whether it is a full day of school, early release day, or school is closed and our members are with us at our Club, we provide healthy meal options for our members.

  

Sports

Triple Play is a program aimed to improve Club Members’ knowledge of healthy habits; increasing the number of hours per day they participate in physical activities and strengthening their ability to interact positively with others and engage in positive relationships. The program offers a holistic approach with the key areas of focus:

Mind: Develop a knowledge base for Club Members to acquire healthy habits, such as making smart food choices, understanding appropriate portion sizes, and creating fun and balanced meals.
Body: Promotes Club Members to become more physically active through fun daily fitness, including activities to get them active and moving.
Soul: Strengthens interpersonal skills, positive behavior, and good character through social recreation programs and activities.

 

The Arts

For young people, arts experiences provide an opportunity to explore, imagine and communicate through creative expression. At Boys & Girls Clubs, members are exposed to various forms of art opportunities in the areas of performing arts, visual arts, digital arts, and applied arts. 

Character & Leadership

Torch Club | Age 11-13 

Torch Clubs are chartered, small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. A Torch Club is a powerful vehicle that helps Club staff meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their life. 

Keystone Clubs | Ages 14-18
Keystone is the Boys & Girls Club Movement’s ultimate teen program for youth ages 14 to 18. This unique program provides leadership development opportunities for youth to participate in activities, both in and out of the Club, in three focus areas: academic success, career preparation and community service. With the guidance of an adult advisor, Keystone Clubs aim to positively impact teens, their Club and local communities.
