YOUTH PROGRAMS THAT MAKE AN IMPACT!
Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County believe in offering high-quality programs to make a lasting impact and provide members with the resources and experiences to increase academic success, increase the likelihood of high school graduation, and improve healthy lifestyles. Programs engage members in six core values: Academics, Health & Wellness, Sports, The Arts, Character & Leadership and Workforce Readiness.
Academics
Power Hour | Ages 6-18
Power Hour: Making Minutes Count provides Club professionals with the strategies, activities, resources and information to create an engaging homework help and tutoring program that encourages Club members of every age to become self-directed learners.
Summer Brain Gain | All Ages
Summer Brain Gain is comprised of one-week modules with fun, themed activities for elementary school, middle school and high school students that are aligned with common core anchor standards. In addition, Summer Brain Gain: Read!, a literacy program, complements the larger Summer Brain Gain curriculum.
Money Matters | Ages 13-18
Money Matters promotes financial responsibility and independence among Club members ages 13 to 18. Participants learn how to manage a checking account, create a budget, save and invest, start small businesses and pay for college.
Health & Wellness
SMART Moves | Age 6-15
SMART Moves is a prevention and education program addressing problems such as drug and alcohol use and premature sexual activity.
Hot Meals
Providing hot, nutritious meals to our members is a major component of our daily program. Whether it is a full day of school, early release day, or school is closed and our members are with us at our Club, we provide healthy meal options for our members.
Sports
Triple Play is a program aimed to improve Club Members’ knowledge of healthy habits; increasing the number of hours per day they participate in physical activities and strengthening their ability to interact positively with others and engage in positive relationships. The program offers a holistic approach with the key areas of focus:
The Arts
Creativity and the arts give people new and unique ways of thinking and expressing themselves. For young people, arts experiences provide an opportunity to explore, imagine and communicate through creative expression. At Boys & Girls Clubs, members are exposed to various forms of art opportunities in the areas of performing arts, visual arts, digital arts, and applied arts.
Character & Leadership
Torch Club | Age 11-13
Torch Clubs are chartered, small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. A Torch Club is a powerful vehicle that helps Club staff meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their life.
Youth of the Month | All Ages
Youth of the Month is Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s recognition program
Workforce Readiness
Career Launch | Age 13-18
CareerLaunch prepares teens for the world of careers and work. Through CareerLaunch, Club teens 13-18 years old embark on a journey to explore possible vocations, make sound educational decisions and find success in the world of work.
