Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County is awarded $20,000 from the George W. Jenkins Fund within the GiveWell Community Foundation to support positive behaviors!

As Josh Shipp said, Every kid is one caring adult away from being a success story. At Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County, we strive to ensure that our members have all the resources they need to be successful in life. We recognize the needs of our community’s at-risk youth are vast, and only continue to grow as the world shifts. To meet the needs of our members, BGCPC strives to incorporate social-emotional wellness and mental health programming. Strengthening our support for social-emotional development and mental health resources will enable us to support more youth to become positive, contributing members of their community.

With help from the Impact Polk grant through the GiveWell Foundation, our Club members will benefit from participating in the Positive Action curriculum which is based on the intuitive philosophy that we feel good about ourselves when we do positive actions, and Triple Play Social Recreation curriculum which focuses on emotional regulation, healthy relationships (with self and others), and responsible decision-making. These efforts in conjunction with our Club Bucks positive behavior reinforcement program allows us to use the caught and taught approach to skill building.

Funding will provide program resources and youth incentives to provide members with recognition and positive reinforcement for being caught using SEL skills in day-to-day application.

We are so appreciative of the George W. Jenkins Fund and the GiveWell Foundation for making this opportunity possible for our members!
